14th Ave is on Strike
ALL OTHER EMPLOYEES ARE TO REPORT FOR THEIR REGULAR HOURS OF WORK HOURS.
November 16, 2018
At 06:00 AM this morning Mike Duquette, Scarborough Local President announced new Strike Locations, “Today, one location in the Scarborough Local is On Strike until authorized to return. This location at 3930 14th Avenue in Markham, is the main RSMC (Rural and Suburban Mail Couriers) location in the Local. There are about 150 employees in this location, of which approximately 125 are RSMC’s. The Rotating Strikes at the Urban Delivery locations at 280 Progress Ave and 155 Ashtonbee have ended effective immediately.”
He also went on to say, “This is the fourth day in a row for the GTA, this time impacting the communities of Northern Richmond Hill, and parts of Unionville and Markham. Approximately 77,000 addresses of all kinds in the affluent areas and business areas of the 905 Area Code, will receive NO MAIL TODAY.
He added “CPC continues to refuse to pay these employees an hourly rate of pay in line with the Pay Equity Arbitration Decision they lost. This, is why we are here today.”
He continued “The last offer was somewhat insulting from CPC, the 2% offer is about level with the inflation rate for the country, so they are asking for us to accept no real wage increase, while the CPC Purolater employees on average make about $5.00 more per hour. There were platitudes about more studies, for the things we know are the problem already. History has told us this is a delay and stall tactic and does not address the issues now.”
“This kind of activity will continue in the future until our issues are resolved” Brother Duquette concluded.
